UNITE HERE Local 30
  Old Town

(Last up dated 01/31/2010)

The food an beverage operation at the State park was run
by Delaware North with over 130 workers in our Union. In
March 0f 2009, Former Mexican fast food operator, Chuck
Ross, has taken over the state concession contract to run
Barra Barra and Fiesta de Reyes restaurants.
Chuck Ross fired all workers there, becasue he wants to pay
$3/hour less per worker and shut out the worker's union. All
the workers and their families are now facing their tough
future out on the street with no job.

We had a great rally at its grand reopening on May 8. The
rally started about 4 p.m. Many local politicians and
community activists along with union members were there
to protest the injustice and support the fired workers.
Demonstrators chanted loudly "No justice, no peace!" in
English and Spanish. Many marched to the entrance gate of
Fiesta de Reyes, sat down and contiured chanting to disturb
Chuck Ross's reopening ceremony. Around 5:30 p.m. U.S.
Congressman Bob Filner, Local 30 President Brigette
Browning, San Diego-Imperial County Labor Council
Secretary-Treasurer Lorena Gonzalez, San Diego Human
Relations Commission chairman Nicole Murray-Ramirez,
Local 30 Representative Erick Carbajal and two others were
arrested by state park rangers for civil disobedience. They
were cited and later release. Two other Local 30 staff,
Graham Fiobes and Dan Rottenstreich were also cited for
making noise in a state park. Chuck Ross's operation was
almost completely shut down during the demonstration.

We have been having regularly picket lines and passing out
information leaflets there since. Our last picket line there
was on 10/30/2009 with members dressing up in their
Halloween costumes from 5 to 6:30 in the evening. We are
going to fight for all the workers there for their job. We are
asking for your support. Please do not patronize the
facilities operated by Chuck Ross in Old Town. We will not
let Chuck Ross get away with his disgusting act.
